Is South Africa safe?

Yes, South Africa is safe for travellers.

How do I get there?

We recommend that our hunters fly South African Airways, directly from Dulles Washington or JFK in New York, to Johannesburg International Airport (Oliver Tambo International).Or you can fly direct with Delta Airline from Atlanta Georgia. This is the pick-up point for South African safaris. Early booking is recommended as flights are crowded during the hunting season, and costs do rise the longer you wait.

Can I drink the water?

Our water supply in the hunting area is completely safe to drink from the tap. We also keep a supply of bottled water on hand for our guests. Drinking tap water in the larger cities is not recommended.

Is it a malaria area?

No mosquitoes in winter months (May – Sept) and we are situated in a malaria free area.

What shots to I have to get?

Most travelers get travel vaccines and medicines because there is a risk of these diseases in the country you are visiting. Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B is recommended.

What currency is used in South Africa?

The South African Rand (ZAR) is used in South Africa for all purchases. You may exchange your currency for ZAR at the airport when you arrive. Most shops, hotels and restaurants accept Visa and Master Card.

Do I need an electrical convertor or adaptor?

Yes, you will need both a convertor to plug your items into and an adaptor to plug into the outlet. The convertor will change the voltage from 230-240 Volts to 120 Volts. We do have a few convertors and adaptors in camp, but it’s best to bring your own to ensure you have one.

How do I pay for the balance of my safari?

We accept cash to pay the balance of the safari before departure day. Personal checks are not accepted. You can also do a wire/swift transfer to Rhinoland’s South African bank account.

What is the importation procedure for firearms?

We recommend Bianca from Safari Concierge to handle all your rifle importations. Her information is listed on our website.

How long does it take for my trophies before arriving in my country?

Between three and six months depending on how fast the officials will issue an export permit after it is requested for dipping and packing. If you do your mounts in South Africa it can take 12 to 18 months.

Is there internet available at the camp?

Yes we have WIFI available.

How far is the drive from the airport to the hunting area?

3 and a half hour drive. Who do the pick-up and drop off at the airport? Ronnie Haywood from African Adventures do most of our pick-ups and drop offs, but occasionally a PH from Rhinoland will also do it. The person who does the pick-up will have a Rhinoland name board with your Last name written on it.

What if I have special dietary requirements?

We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking.

Are airport transfers included?

No. You have to book your flights.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance for peace of mind before and during your trip. It’s important that you protect yourself in case of trip cancellations, baggage delays or loss of baggage, and medical expenses.

Will I need a passport?

Passports are needed when travelling outside of your home country. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the conclusion of your trip.

Will I need a visa?

You are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. Depending on your nationality, you may need visas to enter certain countries included on your trip. Obtaining visas can take up to six weeks prior to your departure. It is strongly advised that you consult your travel agent and the local Consulate or Embassy of the country you are visiting well in advance to determine which visas they require.

How much luggage can I bring?

You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30″ x 18″ x 10″) and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles.

Are tips included?

No tips and gratuities are included.

Will I be able to get laundry done?

Laundry is done on a daily basis.

Can I smoke at the lodge?

No smoking in the rooms, dining and living area. The bar and your room’s terrace are smoking areas.
